Picture Gallery, Szombathely

Szombathely Picture Gallery opened in 1985 is a museum with a national collection interest. It hosts 15-20 different temporary collections. Its base collection also contains older (17-19th-century) pieces, but most of the artifacts come from 20th-century Hungarian artists. Quite a few pictures represent the new wave of painting from the 80s, but present collection interest is primarily directed towards the works of young artists. The Gallery owns a 2500-piece contemporary textile collection, which was mainly accumulated in the course of the series of textile biennials organized since 1970.

Permanent exhibit:

In the collection, main emphasis is put on the Neo-avantgarde generation of the 1960-70s, the main representatives of conceptualism, and the introduction of the young artists of the 90s. Selected from the collection, works by Gyula Derkovits, István Dési Huber, Béla Veszelszky, Lajos Kassák and Imre Ámos from the 1920-30s are on display.
